SALT

THE WHITE GOLD

Mincorgh Noble is seeking partnership, networking and investment to take advantage of the unique Ghana Salt Project, which is truly a golden opportunity, considering the fact that the raw materials for producing salt namely, the sea, the sun, and the wind are all free and inexhaustible, in addition to the fact that, Ghana and Senegal are the only two countries in the whole of West and Central African region that can produce Commercial salt from seawater, because of the saltness of their coastal sea water, with  Ghana being the closet to the major salt consuming and landlocked markets namely, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Niger and Mali.

PRODUCTION

Commercial production of salt from the vast free inexhaustible sea water by solar evaporation method (The cheapest way of producing large quantities of salt) depends on, the minimum Baume of 3.5 degrees, that is, the saltiness less rainfall, strong dry winds, suitable site near seashore and connecting to good roads. The above major factors for salt production have carefully been considered by Mincorgh Noble Resources. The site which we have cited is within the high salt-producing belt of coastal Ghana. The site is just off the seashore with a level of sea salinity of a minimum high than 3.5 degrees Baume (minimum required for salt production). The site connects easily to first-class roads and major market centers. Ghana and Senegal are the only two countries in West and Central Africa that can produce large quantities of salt by solar evaporation.

USES

Salt has many uses both directly and indirectly. Most products you see are produced from salt or using salt in their manufacture. The use of salt is endless; there are at least 14,000 known uses of salt. Common salts are consumed and have a great variety of uses more than any other mineral substance.

Target Market

The main focus of this project is to supply the following markets:

  • To satisfy the demand of the West and Central African sub-region.
  • To supply to local refiners.
  • To supply the caustic soda market.

DOMESTIC

  • Food preservation etc.
  • Has a universal use as a complimentary ingredient for foods in part for its physiological necessity and in part for its quality of giving taste.

INDUSTRY

  • Softening of water for boilers and other situations
  • Preparation of medical infusion, dental creams etc.
  • Treatment of animal hides into leather etc.
  • Used in pharmaceutical industries.
  • In the production of caustic soda for wider application in further manufacturing activities as in Alumina from Bauxite, soaps and detergents, Textiles etc.

THE MARKET

Currently, Brazil, South Africa, Europe, and Australia supply about eighty (80%) percent of the salt requirement in the West Africa sub-region. The latest statistics show that Ghana produces an estimated amount of three hundred thousand metric tons (300,000 MT) of raw annually. Senegal which in the recent past was a supplier of raw salt to the West African sub-region has had their demand decrease due to political crisis in Ivory Coast and other factors. Suppliers in the sub-region who otherwise went through the Ivory Coast to Senegal to purchase salt now rely massively on the Ghanaian salt. This situation has made Ghana the one major supplier of salt in the sub-region in recent times.

MARKET DEMAND

The average annual demand for salt (both refined and raw) for human consumption in the sub-region is estimated at over 2 million tons worth over USD$130 billion. With the discovery of oil in Ghana and the already established Nigeria oil mining, the estimated total amount of raw salt required in the sub-region is about five million metric tons. Due to its human population and large oil fields, Nigeria is the highest importer of salt in West Africa. In Ghana, there is a huge demand for raw and refined salt. Traders from countries such as Mali, Burkina Faso, etc, buy the raw salt from Ghana to their respective local markets for human and animal consumption. This extra demand from neighbouring countries has caused an increase in some local companies in

Ghana importing raw and refined salt for consumption with the expected industrial and population growth, the demand for salt will continue to grow in Ghana and in the sub-region.

Salt on the sub-regional market is sold as raw crystal or refined. Currently, demand for all types of salt is higher than supply. The expected industrial growth in Ghana will demand a lot of raw salt to feed the proposed caustic soda plant for Bauxite conversion alone may add about 7000,000MT to the demand for raw salt. Mincorgh Noble Resources is seeking to explore this White Gold opportunity.
